This version comes from a 1947 menu for Tommy’s Coffee Shop but it was a mid-century trend: the “Dieter’s Delight” or the “Weight Watcher” option. Gwinn’s offered the same thing but with a ring of pineapple on the patty and a Ry-krisp on the side. It was as low-cal as you got on menus like Tommy’s which featured the “Willy Burger,” the very L.A. combo of a cheeseburger stacked with a grilled hot dog.
